In the 1970s, Jon Kabat Ziin began to explore the clinical applications of mindfulness at the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and over the past 30 years, the study of Mindfulness practices has grown exponentially and researchers have studied the effects of mindfulness on our body, emotional and mental states.

Mindfulness is not about emptying your mind from thoughts. That's impossible. Our human brain is constantly generating and processing information including thoughts. Rather than focusing on emptying the mind, we attempt to channel our awareness and attention to the present moment without getting caught up in the thoughts that may arise. Being able to witness yourself in that moment, in a state of simply being.
